SOX-10 is a very sensitive melanomas marker (97% versus 91% for S-100). It is particularly sensitive for desmoplastic melanomas which are often difficult to detect by other markers of melanocytes. SOX-10 is moderately to strongly expressed in desmoplastic melanomas while HMB45 and MelanA / MART-1 are poorly expressed. In addition, SOX-10 is very useful for staining nerve sheath tumors such as schwannomas, neurofibromas and malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors. Dendritic cells do not express SOX-10. Carey J. Buresh of the Propath Laboratory in Dallas, Texas writes: "... SOX-10 is a superb nuclear marker for melanocytic lesions ..." and, "we have been using SOX-10 with great success at PROPATH for more over a year, we think this antibody is underused. ”
